You'll need
- lick mat or slow-feeder bowl made for cats
- wet food
Set up
Choose a mat or bowl with shallow ridges so whiskers are not squashed. Spread part of a wet meal thinly across it.
How to play
First time, spread food thickly so it is easy to lick off.
Place it where your cat usually eats.
Over a week, spread the food thinner and press it into the grooves.
Use it before vet visits, grooming, or during stressful times as a calming job.
Wash right after use.
House rules
- Shallow ridges for whisker comfort.
- Wash after every meal.
- Make it easier
- Thick, smooth layer on a flat plate first.
- Make it harder
- Freeze the spread mat for 30 minutes before serving.
Signs it's having fun
Slow, rhythmic licking, relaxed posture, half-closed eyes.
Stop if you see
Chewing the mat or walking away hungry; make it easier.
Safety
- Remove the mat after use; do not let your cat chew it.
- Do not leave wet food out more than about 30 minutes.
