Set up
Pick quiet places with sturdy, low objects: a log, a bench, a low wall, a bollard.
How to play
Paws up: lure two front paws onto a low log or bench. Reward.
Around: lure your dog in a circle around a post or tree.
Under: lure under a low bench or rail.
Balance: walk along a wide, low log with you holding the harness handle lightly.
Do 3 to 5 obstacles per walk, then a sniff break.
Wipe paws and check for scrapes at home.
House rules
- Low and sturdy only.
- Harness, not collar, for anything off the ground.
- Make it easier
- Just paws up on curbs and low steps.
- Make it harder
- Four paws up on a wider object, send to an object from a short distance.
Signs it's having fun
Curious, confident climbing, looking for the next object.
Stop if you see
Hesitating, trembling, slipping. Choose easier objects.
Safety
- Keep jumps low to protect joints; no jumping down from height.
- Puppies: paws-up and around only, nothing to jump.
- Check objects are steady and dry; skip anything wet or wobbly.
- Respect property: no private walls or playground equipment where dogs aren't allowed.
