Chin rest for dogs: how to play
Your dog rests their chin in your hand or on a towel and holds still. A calm game that makes care like eye drops easier.

- Small room
You'll need
- a folded towel or your hand
- treats
Set up
Sit on the floor or a chair at your dog's chin height.
How to play
Hold your open hand, palm up, under your dog's chin, with a treat in your other hand just in front.
The moment the chin touches your palm, say "Yes" and give the treat.
Build up to 2, 3, then 5 seconds of chin resting.
Then move your other hand as if for an ear check, while the chin stays. Reward.
Your dog can lift the chin any time: that means 'pause'. Respect it.
House rules
- Chin down means go on; chin up means stop.
- Never hold your dog's head in place.
- Make it easier
- Reward a light touch only.
- Make it harder
- Rest the chin on a towel on your knee; add touching ears, eyes or a brush.
Signs it's having fun
Your dog pushes the chin in, eyes soft, body loose.
Stop if you see
Lifting the chin repeatedly, lip licking, or moving away.
Safety
